Davison Clinches Spot at Nike Golf Junior Championship

South Surrey, B.C. (April 28, 2008) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) continued its British Columbia schedule over the weekend at Morgan Creek Golf Club in South Surrey with the Nike Golf Junior Series.  A division low 71 (-1) was turned in on Sunday by overall winner Cameron Davison in what was an enjoyable event for all competitors.

Davison, 13, of Duncan, B.C. earned his first CJGA title of 2008 after posting a 146 two-day total (+2) in the Boys 13 & Under Division.  He defeated first round leader Kevin Lee of Surrey by five strokes and Curtis Chan of Richmond, B.C. by eleven.  The win is Davison’s first in 2008.

Competing in the Girls Division, Jennifer Yang, 14, of Coquitlam, B.C. clinched her second division title of 2008 after posting a division low 71 during Saturday’s first round and closing with a 76 (+4) for a four shot win ahead of Young Soo Kim of Port Coquitlam, B.C.  “I played good again today. I was happy with the way I was hitting the ball,” said Yang, after the round. 

In other divisional races, Brian Jung of Richmond, B.C. fired a tournament low 70 (-2) on Sunday to clinch the Boys 14 – 16 Division title with a two-day total of 149 (+5) while John Koo of Langley, B.C. carded rounds of 74 and 77 for a 151 total (+7) and a convincing nine stroke win in the Boys 17 – 19 Division.

Notes

  • With their division wins, Davison, Yang, Koo, and Jung have clinched a spot in the prestigious Nike Golf Junior Championship to be held in late August in Ontario.
  • The par-4 10th hole played as the most difficult on the course with an average score of 5.31.
  • The par-3 14th hole played as the easiest with an average score of 3.31.
  • Logan Hallwas made the lone eagle of the tournament during Sunday’s final round on the par-5, 17th.
  • With his runner-up finish, Kevin Lee ended his two-event winning streak.
