Pendrith Clinches CJGA Nike Golf Junior Series Title

FENWICK, ON (April 27, 2008) – A thrilling finish in the Boys 14-16 Division highlighted what was a very successful event in Ontario for the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA). Taylor Pendrith’s par on the 18th hole clinched his victory in the CJGA Nike Golf Junior Series at Peninsula Lakes Golf Club in Fenwick, Ont.
Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont. was the overall winner of the qualifying event with an impressive score of 145 (+3). “Julien and I were neck and neck throughout the tournament until the 18th hole until I made par, and Julien finished with a bogey,” explained Pendrith. With the win, Pendrith has qualified for the Nike Golf Junior Championship that will take place in late August in Ontario.
In other divisional races, Samuel Hebert of St. Thomas, Ont. led wire to wire in running away with the Boys 13 & Under Division with a total score of 152 (+10). “I played the front nine better, but overall I am happy with my results,” said Hebert. Herbert played impressively on the front nine, coming under par with a score 34 (-1) and closing with a 40 (+6).
In the Girls Division, Kiersten Klekner-Alt of Ottawa, Ont. won her first CJGA tournament with a total score of 170 (+28). “Yesterday was tough because of the weather, and this was only my second day out this year, so I’m pretty happy,” she said. “Hopefully there’s more to come.”
Former CJGA Team Canada member, Alex Dumais of Caledon East, Ont. placed first in the Boys 17 – 19 Division with a total score of 150 (+8). “For the rest of the season, I just want to continue playing the way that I have and improve on my ball striking,” said Dumais.
Notes
- Labrador, Nfld. resident, Devin Pittman, earned the “grittiest performance of the week award” when it was revealed after the round that he was suffering from a hairline fracture in his wrist. He finished 11th in the Boys 14 – 16 Division.
- All division winners have earned a spot in the prestigious Nike Golf Junior Championship to be held in Ontario in late August.
- The par-4 13th hole played as the most difficult at Peninsula Lakes with an average score of 5.20.
- The par-5 18th hole played as the easiest with an average score of 5.47.
- Dumais won two CJGA events in 2007 and was a member of CJGA Team Canada at the Stephen Ames Cup.
