PICKERING, ON (September 22, 2008) – It has been a very successful fall season for two Ontario golfers as Lucas Kim earned his second consecutive division title this past weekend at Cherry Downs Golf Club while Paulino Fernando earned his first win after a runner up finish last week.

Fernando, 13, turned in an impressive tournament score of 155 (+13) on the challenging Cherry Downs layout to win the Boys 13 & Under Division by nine strokes ahead of Yuvish Singh of Brampton, Ont.  “I putted well but I couldn’t chip which made it tough,” said Fernando.  “My long game was great today.”  Third place in the division went to Joseph Kremer of Don Mills, Ont.

Kim, 14, of Toronto didn’t make it easy on himself but managed to earn his third division title of the year in the Boys 14-16 flight.  He posted rounds of 77 and 83 for a 160 total (+18) and a two shot win over Tae Won Kim, 13, of Richmond Hill, Ont.  “It wasn’t a great day today but I fought through it,” said Kim.  “The course was great. Tough greens.”  Third place in the flight went to Conor MacDonald of Mississauga.

In the Boys 17-19 Division, Jamie Skrypec of Kitchener, Ont. won his first event of the year after erasing a four stroke deficit following the first round.  He carded a tournament low 75 (+3) on Sunday for a two-day total of 158 (+16) and a four shot win over first round leader John Krpan of Burlington, Ont.  “I’m really happy with a 75,” said Skrypec.  “I grinded it out the whole way and turned it up when I had to.  This is really a thinking man’s course”

The CJGA will continue its Fall Series schedule next week, September 27th and 28th, at Horseshoe Valley Resort in Barrie, Ont.  Following the first round, the CJGA will present two luck junior golfers with the Mizuno All-Canadian Award.
