FOR FULL RESULTS CLICK HERE Pugwash, NS (June 2, 2008) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) began its Atlantic Provinces tour this past weekend, May 31st and June 1st, 2008 at Northumberland Links Golf Club with the Nike Golf Junior Series. Matt Layden of Moncton, N.B. shot the tournament low of 151 to win the Boys 17-19 Division despite difficult opening day conditions. Layden held onto a first round lead by posting 73 on the final day for two day total of 151 (+7). “I really didn’t hit the ball as well as I did on day one, but my putter really kept me in there. I made a lot of 6-8 foot par putts that kept my round going,” acknowledged Layden. Craig Dale of Truro, N.S. made it a tight race by posting a tournament low round of 72 on the closing day to finish one stroke back at 152. Third place was clinched by Halifax’s Thomas McLellan. In Boys 14-16 Division Eric Locke of Digby, N.S. was able to overcome a five stroke first round deficit in posting a two-day total of 152 (+8) to force a playoff with the first round leader Stéphane Boudreau of Dieppe, N.B. The playoff lasted two holes before Boudreau would made par to clinch the division. Brett McKinnon of Glace Bay, N.S. finished third place with 158. Katie White of Summerside, PEI emerged victorious in the Girls Division after shooting an opening round 89 and second round 90 for a two day total of 179 (+35) to beat Brynn Tomie of Bedford N.S. by one stroke, “it came down the last hole, it was a close match,” admitted White. Michaela Misener of Stanhope, PEI secured third place. In the Boys 13 and Under Division JJ Allison from Campbellton, N.B. was able to beat out Cody Locke of Brookfield, N.S. and Bruce Tomie of Bedford, N.S. with a score of 170 (+26).
