MOUNT HOPE, ON (May 17, 2009) – Frost and high winds were some of the obstacles faced by the junior golfers at the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s (CJGA) North America Cup Qualifier this past weekend at Willow Valley Golf Club. These conditions did not stop the juniors from playing a spirited tournament, Sean Bozuk (Burlington, Ont.) of the Boys 15-19 Division secured his first win with the CJGA, shooting a two day score of 153 (+8).
“I was able to keep my game consistent, although the weather was challenging,” explained Bozuk. “I plan to play in a lot more tournaments this season and work on my overall game.” Kyle Sayani (Mississauga, Ont.) finished in second and Abraham Botha (Stoney Creek, Ont.) took third.
In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Tae Won Kim (Richmond Hill, Ont.) played two solid rounds to win and scored 153 (+9). “After playing at Penninsula Lakes, I was able to adapt to the wind a lot better in this tournament,” admitted Kim. Ryan Borg (Orangeville, Ont.) secured second place, and Drew Nesbitt of (Shanty Bay, Ont.) placed third.
Although she was quite modest about her win, Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ont.) placed first in the Girls Division, with a final score of 169 (+25). “I didn’t play as well as I would have hoped to,” explained Faribairn. “But the weather made everything a lot harder.” Kaitlin Marrin (Oakville, Ont.) took second place while Brittany Davidson (Mississauga, Ont.) placed third.
