First Time Winners Take Home St. Clair College PGM Titles

Blenheim, Ont. (June 14, 2009) –  Beautiful weather conditions greeted juniors at Blenheim Golf Club in Blenheim, Ontario for the second addition of the St. Clair College PGM Junior Open on the weekend. With a birdie on the par 4, 17th hole, Quinn Vilneff (Amherstberg, ON) all but sealed his first CJGA victory and the Boys 15-19 Division title carding a final round 71 (-1). “I played fairly well today, kept my head in check and stayed calm”, said Vilneff, who trailed all tournament until taking the lead on 17. “I worked and fed off my fellow competitors, we were all playing well today and it helped me with my game” he added. Twelve year old Alyssa Getty (Leamington, ON) put together two consistent rounds to take home her first CJGA title in the Girls Divison, while Brendan Seys (Port Lambton, ON) captured his first CJGA title in the Boys 14 & Under flight.

Vilneff, who also captured tournament low medalist honors, finished the tournament with a 145 (+1) two-day total, good for a two stroke victory over first round leader Austin Kelly. Kelly (Chatham, ON) was not able to hold off his fellow-competitor, succumbing to Vilneff after a three shot swing on the 17th, finishing the tournament at +3 (70-78—147). runner-up in the Boys 15-19 division. Third place in the division went to Kevin Fawcett (London, ON) , finishing with a two-day total 151 (+7).  
Seys, 11, captured his first CJGA divisional title in the Boys 14 & Under flight by a convincing five stroke margin. “My driver and short game were really good this weekend”, said Seys, who carded a final round 79 (+7) for a 164 two-day total. “I really liked the golf course – the fairways were great and the greens were soft” he added. Owen Bates (Mississauga, ON) had his fifth top three finish of the year as he improved his final round score by five strokes (82), finishing the tournament at 169. Conor Mathers (Brigden, ON took home third place in the division with a 174 two-day total.
Getty, just 12 years old, led wire to wire in the Girls Division, capturing her first CJGA title. “My driver was really working for me this weekend” said Getty, who closed the tournament at 155 (+11) and a six stroke victory. “I didn’t miss many fairways, and was fairly long off the tee, which really benefitted me all weekend” she added. Laura DeMarco (LaSalle, ON) was the closest competitor to challenge Getty for the title, carding a final round 80 (+8) for a two-day total 161. Justine Decock (Wallaceburg, ON) finished third in the division, shooting a final round 81 (+9) for a 174 tournament total.
