New Tees Make Quality Family Time Possible on Championship Course

Stouffville, ON, February 10, 2011 – Golf offers a great way for families to spend quality time together. However, it can be difficult for families to play on regulation courses because younger children, and family members with less golf experience, typically can’t play off of standard tees.

Granite Golf Club, in partnership with the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA), has developed a way to address this limitation. This season, Granite Golf Club will be the first in Canada to receive an endorsement from the CJGA to implement the Family Tees Program. This first of its kind program offers tees of varying yardage to accommodate children of different ages and ability.

This initiative will make a round of golf on a regulation course available, and enjoyable, for all family members, regardless of age or ability. “Granite Golf Club is excited to move forward with Family Tees in 2011. The commitment to this program affirms our strongest value; Putting Family First,” said David Fritz, Director of Golf, Granite Golf Club.

Walter Cheung, General Manager & Chief Operating Officer of Granite Golf Club is an enthusiastic supporter of the program. “As Canada’s Premier Private Family Golf Club, the new tees offer a unique opportunity for parents with young children to spend quality time with each other, on the golf course. It also provides a perfect platform for junior golf development. And having the Canadian Junior Golf Association endorse the program brought us credible insight on how we set the course for juniors ages 7 and up”.

Family Tees is split into three categories; Levels 1, 2, and 3.

Level 1 is targeted to golfers 7 to 8 years of age, with a total 9 hole distance of 1,100 to 1,500 yards. Par 3's range from 45 to 85 yards, par 4's from 85 to 135 yards, and par 5's from 135 to 195 yards.

The next level, intended for golfers 9 to 10 years of age is 2000 yards for 9 holes. Level 2 has par 3's from 75 to 115 yards, par 4's between 185 and 245 yards, and par 5's from 285 to 345 yards.

Level 3 Tees for golfers 11 and older are 2,500 yards for 9 holes, or 5,000 for the full 18. Par 3's are between 105 to 130 yards, par 4's range from 215 to 345 yards, and par 5's between 385 to 400 yards.

“The CJGA is very excited to be involved with Granite Golf Club and the new Family Tees program. Our endorsement of this program is a direct correlation to the CJGA’s mission of our ongoing commitment to junior golf and growing the game of golf in Canada,” said Brad Parkins, Chief Operations Officer at the Canadian Junior Golf Association. “This program is in demand, and will bring families together on the golf course in a fun, enjoyable atmosphere”.

Granite Golf Club and the Canadian Junior Golf Association are excited about the launch of the Family Tees program, allowing entire families to enjoy the Thomas McBroom designed, world class Granite Golf Club course.
