Richmond Hill, Ont. (March 11, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is set to open its 19th season on Saturday at Hazelmere Country Club in Surrey, British Columbia with the first of twelve Nike Golf Junior Series / Stephen Ames Cup Qualifier events nationally. The event will feature a strong field of the region’s top junior golfers as they vie for divisional titles in this season opening double qualifier.
The event will run March12th and 13th on the challenging Hazelmere layout. Juniors will be attempting to qualify for two prestigious events, Nike Golf Junior Championship and Stephen Ames Cup.
The Nike Golf Junior Championship is a winner’s only event, bringing together the divisional winners of each of the twelve Nike Golf Junior Series events across the country. Part of the CJGA Championship series, the Nike Golf Junior Championship is the only winner’s only event on the CJGA national schedule. The 2011 event will take place in the beautiful Thousand Islands region of Ontario at Smuggler’s Glen Golf Resort from August 21-24.
On the international side, the Stephen Ames Cup is one of the most sought after CJGA national teams, as PGA Tour Professional Stephen Ames hosts the event and spends the week with the junior golfers. The event, now in its 7th year, is a Ryder Cup format event between Canada and Trinidad & Tobago. The 2011 event will take place in Ames’ hometown of Calgary, Alberta at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club from August 15-19.
The CJGA season opening event will play host to some of the top juniors in the region and is sure to provide some great excitement come Sunday.
The tournament will get under way at 11:00AM each day. Spectators are encouraged to attend.
