Chan, Chua and Vigna Go Wire to Wire at Greenacres

Richmond Hill, Ont. (April 11, 2011) – Despite cool and rainy weather Cherie Chua of White Rock, BC claimed her first ever CJGA title this past weekend at the CJGA Junior Worlds / Lipton Brisk Canada Cup Team West Qualifier held at Greenacres Golf Course in Richmond BC.

Chua was able to hold off her two siblings for the victory in the Girls division after shooting a 77 (+4) and 80 (+7) for a two day total of 157. “The course proved to be more difficult then I first thought” said Chua after her win. “I stayed calm and tried to limit my mistakes” she continued. Chua added that her putting was her greatest strength. One shot back of Chua was Keanna Mason of Maple Ridge BC who also shot 77 in the opening round. In third place was Grace Chua of White Rock, BC who shot a second round 79 (+6) the best round of the day in the Girls division for a two day total of 159. In the Boys 14 & Under division former CJGA Team Canada member Curtis Chan of Richmond, BC claimed his first CJGA title of the 2011 season. Chan opened the tournament with a 1 under par 70. “It was proper course management and the 8 birdies that contributed to the victory.”  Runner up was Santiago Bouyra of Qualicum Beach, BC with a two day total of 147 (+5). Third place went to three-time CJGA winner this year Jordan Lu of Surrey, BC who overcame a first round 76 (+5) to shoot a second round 72 (+1) and finished the tournament with a two day total of 148.
Kevin Vigna of Coquitlam, BC was able to hold on to the win the Boys 15-19 division after scorching the course with a 4 under 67 in the first round. Vigna collected his second career CJGA title after a second round 76 (+5) to win the division by three strokes. “I had a solid first day but was a little shaky on the back nine today” said an elated Vigna. Seung Jun Woo of Maple Ridge, BC and Connor Gann of Victoria, BC came from behind to finish tied for second with a two day total of 146. Woo shot a second day 69 (-2) for the best round of the day.
