CJGA Kicks Off the 2011 Ontario Season at Peninsula Lakes

Richmond Hill, Ont. (April 21, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is excited to start the 2011 Ontario schedule this weekend with a Nike Golf Junior Series/Stephen Ames Cup Qualifier on April 23 and 24 at Peninsula Lakes Golf Club in Fenwick, Ont. The competitive field of junior golfers is looking to start their season strong as they prepare for an exciting year ahead on the CJGA tour. Juniors with be competing for a prestigious spot on Team Canada for the Stephen Ames Cup taking place later this season on home soil in Calgary, Alta.

Lucas Lukovic of Caledon, Ont. is looking to build on an impressive 2010 campaign in the Boys 14 & Under division. He had top-five finishes in two of the CJGA’s national events, including the winners-only Nike Golf Junior Championship.  Lukovic is hoping his experience at Peninsula Lakes can propel him to the top of the field as he finished fifth at last year’s tournament.  Gavin McQueenie of Toronto, Ont. and Brendan Seys of Port Lambton, Ont. are also looking to challenge for the title. McQueenie won a divisional crown  2010 and recorded seven top-five finishes last season.  Seys also had a successful year, finishing ninth at the CJGA national match play championship.
Zachery Secord of Midland, Ont., competing in the Boys 15-19 division this season, will look to continue his successful play of last season.  He placed in the top five at all three of the CJGA national events and is looking to continue his strong play into the 2011 golf season.  Bradley Cistrone of Oakville, Ont. and Blair Hamilton of Burlington, Ont. are expected to challenge for the first event of the year. Hamilton will look to return to CJGA Team Canada having represented the CJGA at the Stephen Ames Cup in Trinidad last season, capturing two out of three points in his matches.
The girls division is also expected to be a competitive field this weekend. Kennedy Bodfield of St. Catharines, Ont. goes into the tournament as a front runner having captured a divisional crown and posting a fifth-place finish at the CJGA national match play championship in 2010. Up-and-comer Dylaney Day and Alyssa Getty are also looking to challenge for the top spot.
The event at Peninsula Lakes includes a crop of local talent from the Niagara region. Alexander Matovic of Niagara Falls, Ont. (Boys 14 & Under), Zach Soccio-Marandola of Thorold, Ont. (Boys 15-19) and Lucas Tonan of Grimsby, Ont. (Boys 15-19) are in the field this weekend as they look to perform well in front of the hometown crowd.
Tee times begin at 10:00 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
