Richmond Hill, Ont. (April 28, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is gearing up for another event this weekend at Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax, Ont. The field of juniors will try to put two good rounds together in hopes of capturing their respective division title. Golfers will be vying for a spot in the Nike Golf Junior Series Championship and the honour of representing CJGA Team Canada at the Stephen Ames Cup. Both rounds, taking place on April 30 and May 1, will be held on the North Course at both Diamond and Ruby courses.

Competition will be fierce in the Boys 14 & Under division as several past Junior Linkster champions will be eyeing the title. Mississauga, Ont. natives Damon Crane and Kyle Gorospe each captured two Junior Linkster events last season and will look to carry their success onto the Junior Tour. Brendan Seys of Port Lambton, Ont. is also expected to contend after finishing tied for sixth at last weekend’s event in Fenwick, Ont. Local talent Thomas Brazill is participating in his first tournament with the CJGA and is looking to play well in his hometown.
Russell Bowie is another Mississauga, Ont. native hoping to bring his success from last summer to the Durham region in the Boys 15-19 division. He had three top-ten finishes in 2010, including a ninth-place finish at the CJGA national junior golf championship. Christopher Chee of Markham, Ont. is also looking to start his season strong after an impressive 2010 campaign. He had a total of eight top-ten finishes on the Junior Linkster Tour and played well throughout the Ontario fall series. Ajax, Ont. product Cory Haslam is another name to watch. The experience playing at his home course of Deer Creek should bode well for him during his first CJGA event.
The Girls 11-19 division is headlined by Alyssa Getty of Leamington, Ont. Coming off an impressive victory last weekend in Fenwick, Ont., Getty is aiming to build on the performance and continue her strong start to the 2011 CJGA season. The other participants competing in the tournament are Sukriti Harjai of Thornhill, Ont., Claire O’Neil of Etobicoke, Ont. and Madelyn Piccininni and Olivia Lee of Toronto.
Tee times for both rounds begin at 11 a.m.
