Richmond Hill, Ont. (May 12, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is gearing up for the third event of the Alberta schedule, the PUMA Challenge/CJGA Junior Worlds Qualifier happening at Sundre GC in Sundre, Alta. On May 14th and 15th juniors will be playing for the opportunity to compete as a member of CJGA Team Canada and represent our country later this summer at the Junior World Golf Championships (JWGC), which will be taking place in San Diego, California. The JWGC is the largest worldwide junior golf event and is unique for its international representation and cultural diversity. This event is also one of four tournaments happening across Canada in the PUMA Challenge series, which provides golfers of all skill levels with a unique tournament experience.

The Boys 14 & Under division includes the top three finishers from last weeks’ Alberta event, which should make for some close competition this weekend. Nolan Mastel of Medicine Hat, Alta. finished first at that event with an incredible second round score of 73. Expect big results from this junior, who is playing with the CJGA for his first season. Finishing tied for second place were Michael Pruss of Red Deer, Alta., and Ryan Rody from Calgary. Pruss was a member of Team West at the Lipton Brisk Canada Cup last year. This is Rody’s first season in the Junior Tour after taking a break since 2008 when he was a Junior Linkster.

The Boys 15-19 division comprises a majority of players that are travelling from Calgary. Two such juniors are Greg Billingsley and Scott McNichol. Billingsley finished sixth at last weeks’ Alberta event in Carstairs with an impressive two-day score of even par while McNichol had three top six finishes in his 2010 campaign. Veteran player Jesse Teron from Red Deer, Alta. is hoping for a victory this weekend after coming in fifth last week in Carstairs with an incredible score of 1-under-par.

In the Girls division, sisters Jaclyn and Carolyn Lee from Calgary will be hoping for strong performances. Last week in Carstairs, Jaclyn finished third, while Carolyn finished two strokes behind her sister in fourth place. Jaclyn and Carolyn both had great second round scores, shooting 78 and 79, respectively.

Both rounds this weekend will commence with a 2:00 p.m. shotgun start.
