Richmond Hill, Ont. (May 23, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) concluded the final round of the Lipton Brisk Canada Cup Team East Qualifier yesterday at Diamondback Golf Club in Richmond Hill, Ont. After scorching temperatures Saturday, players were met with changing weather conditions during their second round. Rain, wind and cloud cover couldn't cool off the juniors as several of them posted impressive scores on Sunday. Participants were vying for spots on Team East at the Lipton Brisk Canada Cup later this summer in Welland, Ont.

In the Girls 11-19 division, Rachel Pollock of Guelph, Ont. posted the best round of the tournament Sunday to claim the victory. She recorded three consecutive birdies on No. 5,6 and 7 en route to a blistering score of 32 (-4) on the front nine. Finishing the round with an even-par 72, Pollock ended the event with a 152 (+8) two-day total. Grace Chung of Richmond Hill, Ont., who finished one spot a head of Pollock to capture the title last week, ended in second place while Brittany Davidson of Mississauga, Ont. finished third.

“I think I played well considering the conditions,” said Pollock. “I loved the course, but it was challenging and deceiving. My putting and ball striking kept me in the tournament and led to my great score today. On number six, I had a 25 foot slider for birdie. I was able to sink it and that really gave me confidence the rest of the round.”

Austin James of Bath, Ont. led wire-to-wire to capture the Boys 15-19 division title. He shot a consistent round of 72 (E) Sunday for a two-day 143 (-1) total. He carded six birdies on the round and finished the first nine holes at 4-under-par. Christopher Lancaster of Ancaster, Ont. finished second while Alex Turner of Toronto and Stephen Bardswick of Oakville, Ont. tied for third.

In the Boys 14 & Under division, Mark Wodz of Toronto captured his first tournament of the season after an impressive final round. He posted a 73 (+1) Sunday and had four birdies on the day, including one on the tough 18th hole. Sam McNulty of Port Perry, Ont. and Wesley Day of Ajax, Ont. finished four shots behind Wodz in a tie for second place with a 158 (+14) total.
