Moncton, N.B. (May 26, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is ready to begin the Atlantic golf season with its first event this weekend at Moncton Golf & Country Club in Moncton, N.B. The CJGA East Coast Qualifiers offers juniors from across Atlantic Canada with the opportunity to qualify for such major events as the North America Cup (Toronto), Junior World Golf Championships (San Diego), Euro Junior Golf Cup (Scotland), and Lipton Brisk Canada Cup (Welland, Ont.), all happening later this summer. CJGA is pleased to be collaborating with the par-70 Moncton G&CC for the first time.

Returning for the 2011 season in the Boys 14 & Under division is Patrick Gauvin of Dieppe, N.B. Last year, he posted second place at the first Atlantic Canada tournament. Also competing this weekend are Daniel Boudreau from Beresford, N.B., and Simon Richard of Dieppe, N.B.
In the Boys 15-19 division, look out for Andrew Reid of Cole Harbour, N.S. who placed second in the opening Atlantic event last year with an impressive two-day score of +12. Returning CJGA golfers Ryan McDonah of Dartmouth, N.S., Bradford Curren of Hammond Plains, N.S., and Marc-Andrew Belanger from Dieppe, N.B. will also be looking to contend after claiming top five finishes at one of last years’ events in Nova Scotia. McDonah also participated in last years’ Ping Canadian Junior Match Play Championship. Look out for local golfer Tyson Wirsz of Moncton, N.B. who will be playing in his first CJGA event.
The Girls division shows an impressive surge in golfers since last years’ East Coast events. Emily Romkey of Fall River, N.S. will be looking to perform well this weekend after claiming victory at both Atlantic tournaments last year. Avid golfers Julia Henderson, Michaela Taylor, and Mairi Keay from New Glasgow, N.S. will also be returning after competing at both of last years’ events. The CJGA is impressed to see Katie Griffiths of Red Deer, Alta. travelling all the way from the West Coast to compete after placing fourth at an Alberta event earlier this year. Local golfer Alexandra LeBlanc of Moncton, N.B. will also be in attendance this weekend.
Tee times begin both Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to attend.
