Halifax, N.S. (June 2, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is ready to host another Junior Tour event in the Atlantic region this weekend at Northumberland Links Golf Club in Pugwash, N.S. This two-day tournament is part of the Nike Golf Junior Series and is a Stephen Ames Cup Qualifier. Many juniors who competed at last weeks’ tournament in Moncton as well as newcomers will be travelling to Pugwash for the opportunity to qualify for the Nike Golf Junior Championship or Stephen Ames Cup taking place later this summer. Regarded as the Canadian Pebble Beach because of its close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, Northumberland Links should provide a challenge to junior players.
After taking the victory in last weeks’ East Coast event, Simon Richard of Dieppe, N.B. will be returning in the Boys 14 & Under division to compete. Also returning from the Moncton tournament is Patrick Gauvin of Dieppe, N.B. As well, this group is composed of a number of new CJGA players including brothers Luke and Matt Green of Bedford, N.S., and Jarred Lowe from Digby, N.S.
In the Boys 15-19 division, Myles Creighton of Digby, N.S. will be competing after taking the title at last weeks’ Moncton event with a two-day score of +11. Top ten finishers from last week who will also be returning are Braxton Maxwell from Campbellton, N.B., Jonathan Whelan of Rothesay, N.B., and Anthony Konning from Indian Mountain, N.B. Ryan MacPherson from Egerton, N.S. will be playing in his first event of the CJGA season after placing fourth and fifth at last years’ Atlantic events. Expect a close competition in this group of skilled players.
All the players in the Girls division that competed in Moncton will be returning for this weekend. Emily Romkey of Fall River, N.S. is looking to continue her streak after taking first place last weekend, as well as finishing first in both of the events she competed in last year. Moncton’s respective third and fourth place finishers Molly Molyneaux of Charlottetown, P.E.I. and Brennadette Little from Westville, N.S. will also be looking to contend.
Tee times begin both days at 11:30 a.m. Spectators are encouraged to attend.
