Ponoka, Alta. (June 20, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) hosted a tournament over the weekend at Wolf Creek Golf Resort in Ponoka, Alta. This event was a qualifier for the Nike Golf Junior Championship and Stephen Ames Cup coming up later this summer. Unfortunately due to harsh weather on Saturday, the first round was reduced to nine holes of competition. On Sunday, the event was forced to be played on the Old Course instead of the Links Course because of the heavy rainfall on Saturday.

Patrick Murphy from Crossfield, Alta. dominated the field in the Boys 14 & Under division with a two-day score of 105, including a stellar second round of 68. Murphy carded three birdies through nine holes on Saturday, and knocked down a couple more during the second round. This is Murphy’s third win of the season. Finishing in second place was Andrew Brown of Calgary, who took second place with a total of 124, followed two strokes behind by Ethan Leier from Calgary.
In the Boys 15-19 division, Matt Williams claimed his first win of the year with a total score of 109 (40-69). Scott Secord of Calgary finished three strokes behind in second place, although he had the opportunity to take the win if it was not for one problem hole on the back nine. Secord had one of the best performances on Saturday, shooting even-par through nine. Jack Wood from Banff, Alta. finished one stroke behind Secord to place third.
Sabrine Garrison of Calgary won in the Girls division with a score of 119 (46-73), including one eagle on Saturday. Finishing in second and third place, respectively, were sisters Jaclyn and Carolyn Lee from Calgary. Jaclyn was leading the field going into Sunday with a score of 43 counting one eagle, but was unable to maintain her position at the top of the leaderboard.
