Richmond Hill, ON (June 24, 2011) The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) will be travelling to the prestigious Oakdale Golf & Country Club on Monday June 27 for the CJGA Oakdale Junior Open. Junior golfers will have the opportunity to play the challenging Stanley Thompson designed course, playing the original Thompson/Homeniuk nines at the twenty-seven hole Downsview, Ont. golf club.
In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Oakdale member Isaiah Crystal of Toronto will look to take advantage of his course knowledge to capture his first CJGA divisional crown. Crystal’s top finish was a T7 in the competitive Junior Worlds Qualifier earlier in the season. Ryan Ahrens of Peterborough, Ont. will look for his first victory after a runner-up finish two weeks ago at the Nike Golf Junior Series events. Mackenzie Carter of Coburg, Ont., and Jack Quirke of Waterloo, Ont. should also be in contention on Monday.
The Boys 15-19 division will have a number of players looking to take home the divisional crown on the Thompson layout. Owen Chandler of Toronto will look to improve on his top five finish earlier this season and capture his first 2011 title. Mitchell Ahrens of Peterborough, Ont. will look to win the event in the older division after he captured the inaugural Oakdale Junior Open last year in the Boys 14 & Under division. Michael Fama of Maple, Ont. should be in contention along with Chris White of Georgetown, Ont.
The Girls Division will see a half dozen competitors battle it out for the divisional title. Claire O’Neil is looking to break through for her first tournament victory of the year after finishing runner-up in two events this season. Madelyn Piccininni of Toronto is also looking to capture a divisional title after a runner-up finish in her first event of the season while Jessica Ip of Richmond Hill should be in contention on the leader board on Monday.
Tournament play gets underway at 8:00am on Monday morning.
