Ancaster, Ont. (June 28, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) concluded the final round of the Nike Golf Junior Series/ Stephen Ames Cup Qualifier Sunday at Mystic Golf Club in Ancaster, Ont. After a difficult first round, many golfers rebounded on day two to post great scores. Juniors created a nail-biting atmosphere on the course as two divisions required playoffs. Winners in each division earned an invitation to the Nike Golf Junior Championship later this summer in Lansdowne, Ont. All scores will also be considered for spots on CJGA Team Canada at the Stephen Ames Cup.

In the Boys 14 & Under division, Joey Hetherman of Burlington, Ont. led wire-to-wire to capture the title. He was even par on his first nine holes Sunday en route to a 3-over-par 75. After his 79 in the first round, Hetherman finished with a 154 (+10) two day total. Connor Doucette of Waterloo, Ont. ended the tournament five shots back in second. Craig Stefureak of Caledonia, Ont. fired a final-round 76 (+4) to leap into the top three at 161 (+17).
Zackery Secord of Midland, Ont. came from behind to win in a playoff in the Boys 15-19 division. He shot the best round of the tournament – a 1-under-par 71 – to tie Michael Lancaster of Ancaster, Ont. after 36 holes at 150 (+6). Secord was able to pull out the victory after the first extra hole. Cole Kent of Peterborough, Ont. finished two shots back in third.
Kennedy Bodfield of St. Catharines, Ont. carded a final round 78 (+6) to win the championship. She was tied with Marlies Klekner-Alt of Ottawa and came out on top after the first playoff hole. Jordon Newlands of Toronto and Caitlan Inman of London, Ont. finished third and fourth respectively.
“I was able to hit a lot of greens and fairways,” said Bodfield. “The course was tough, but I was happy with how I played. On number seven, I was able to sink a 39-foot putt for par after a horrible tee shot. It really set the tone for the rest of my round.”
