CJGA Team Canada Comes Up Short at 2011 North America Cup

Toronto, Ont. ( July 6, 2011) – CJGA Team Canada and IJGT Team USA wrapped up the ninth annual North America Cup today at Weston Golf & Country Club in Toronto with 14 singles matches.  Play began bright and early this morning on the Willie Park Jr. designed course as both countries came into the day with a shot at taking the title.  Team USA started out the day with a three point lead yet proved too much for the Canadian squad capturing the title by a score of 19-9.

Capturing the cup for the fifth consecutive year, the America squad captured 10 ½ of the possible 14 points up for grabs today and continued their strong hold on the North America Cup. Blake Barens of Villa Park, Calif. was strong for the American team all week, winning all three of his matches to lead the American team.
“I’m really happy with how our team played,” he said. “The matches this week were really close, but we come out today in the singles matches and dominated.”
In his match against Canadian captain Javier Diaz, Barens was on fire during the first nine holes, sinking several long putts including a 30-footer on No. 7.
“The course was spectacular all three days. It was in perfect condition and the greens were running really smooth.  It was a great experience.”
