Richmond Hill, Ont. (July 7, 2011) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is participating at the 2011 Riverwoods Junior Open next week in Breda, the Netherlands. Five talented junior golfers from across the country will suit up against a strong international field as part of CJGA Team Canada at the distinguished event. Considered one of the top-10 golf courses in Holland, the tournament is returning to Toxandria Golf Club which has hosted the Open since 1984.

CJGA Team Canada
Javier Diaz, Woodbridge, Ont.
Conor MacDonald, Mississauga, Ont.
Chris MacDonald, Mississauga, Ont.
Ian Mmbando, Lethbridge, Alta.
Shannon Lee Greenshields, Pincourt, Que.

CJGA Team Canada members are no stranger to international competition. Javier Diaz captained the Canadian side at this year’s North America Cup in Toronto. Both Connor MacDonald and Ian Mmbando were on the team in 2009 when they battled Team USA in South Carolina while Chris MacDonald and Shannon Lee Greenshields have played at the World Junior Challenge in Florida. The experience gained through these events with the CJGA has given the Canadian contingent a taste of what it takes to win on the international level.

Formally known as the Dutch Junior International, the Riverwoods Junior Opens provides junior golfers from across the world the chance to participate in a European Tour event. The low boy will receive an exemption into the KLM Open in September and the low girl will receive an exemption into the ABN AMRO Ladies Open. The tournament has featured some of the most prominent up-and-coming golf talent in the world, including Martin Kaymer – 2010 PGA Championship winner and current No. 3 ranked player in the world.

The tournament is organized in cooperation with the Netherlands Golf Federation and is ranked on the R&A’s World Amateur Golf Ranking. Prior to the stroke play event at Toxandria, CJGA Team Canada will face off against a squad from the Dutch National Team in fourball and singles matches.
