Team East Widens Lead Heading into Final Round of Lipton Brisk Canada Cup

Welland, Ont. (July 19, 2011) – Day two of the Lipton Brisk Canada Cup concluded today at LockNess Links in Welland, Ont. Team East got off to the early lead against Team West and claimed three of the possible four points to head into the final day of competition with a three point cushion. Golfers continued to battle humid and overcast conditions throughout the morning and can expect another scorcher tomorrow.

In the Girls 11-19 match, Team East and Team West went back and forth throughout their round. Tied going into the final hole of the day, Madelyn Piccininni sunk her final putt to win the match and give Team West a shot at the cup going into day three.
“We played really well,” she said. “Me and Laura had great teamwork all day and really pulled it together on eighteen.”
“If everyone from the west comes in focused and ready to win, I think we could really do some damage and pull this thing off.”
The Lipton Brisk Canada Cup wraps-up tomorrow with singles matches. The first team to reach 8 ½ points will be crowned the winner. Tee times start at 8 a.m. Spectators are encouraged to attend.

The 9th annual Lipton Brisk Canada Cup is the only national Ryder Cup style event in Canada. The West vs. East Ryder Cup matches were designed to help elite Canadian junior golfers develop the necessary skills to handle intense mental preparation and prepare for match play events on the international scene. Team East leads the overall series 5-3.
