Canadian International Junior Challenge Returns to OslerBrook

CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON (September 11, 2011) – The Canadian International Junior Challenge is set to return to the beautiful OslerBrook Golf & Country Club come Tuesday, with eight countries ready to challenge for the coveted title. The eight team competition, which is made of four man teams, will look to knock off three time defending champion England in the three day stroke play competition.
The event, conducted by the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) with the support of Nike Golf Canada as the title sponsor, is pleased to welcome the Colombian Golf Federation, Costa Rica Golf Association, English Golf Union, Mexico Golf Federation, Norwegian Golf Federation, Trinidad & Tobago Golf Association, and the USA (International Junior Golf Academy) to the 5th edition of the event, in addition to CJGA Team Canada. Each team is comprised of four junior golfers aged 18 years or younger with the top three scores from each team will count towards the total team score for each round.
“The CJGA is pleased to once again host the Canadian International Junior Challenge this year at OslerBrook Golf & Country Club,” said John Lawrence, CIJC Tournament Director. “Aside from the competitive nature of the event, it’s an opportunity to show off a unique part of Canada’s landscape to the visiting nations.  Nike Golf Canada continues to support the game at the grassroots level and is to be commended for their support in growing this event to become of one the world’s most notable junior golf invitational’s” he added.
“Nike Golf Canada is proud to return as title sponsor of the Canadian International Junior Challenge, which has quickly established itself as a prestigious competition that showcases some of the best junior golfers from Canada and around the world,” said Vitalis Gomes, Director of Marketing for Nike Golf Canada. “Supporting this great event further demonstrates Nike Golf’s commitment to developing junior golfers in Canada and internationally. We commend the Canadian Junior Golf Association for their work in growing this great event.”
In 2010, England withstood a final round charge from Colombia to take home the team title for the third straight year. Medalist honours went to Colombian, Juan Sebastian Munoz, who finished the tournament at 225.
The private OslerBrook Golf & Country Club will again host the event and should prove to be a fantastic test for the participating teams. The picturesque course is nestled between the Niagara Escarpment and Georgian Bay amid 230 acres of natural terrain.
CJGA Team Canada will be represented by four outstanding young golfers, Matt Williams, of Calgary, AB, William Mahood of Oakville, ON, Patrick Murphy of Crossfield, AB and Colton Kalkanis of Hillsdale, ON.  CJGA National Team Coach Sean Casey will assume team manager duties for the Canadian side.
