CJGA Junior Tour Members Tackle Woodington Lakes Golf Club

Tottenham, ON (August 2, 2012) – The stunning Woodington Lakes Golf Club played host to the latest stop on the CJGA Ontario Junior Tour.  A strong field of players took to the course seeking to gain valuable National Order of Merit points in the closing stretches of the season. At the end of proceedings, it was Tony Gil who captures the boys 15-19 Division, Bradley Byers who claimed victory in the Boys 14-Under Division, and Eunice Hong who took first place in the Girls Division.

Tony Gil (Markham, ON) played sensational golf over the course of the two day tournament. His round of 70-72 left him with a 2-under par total for the tournament. Gil credited his success on the course to his “ball striking and iron shots, I felt good about my swing”. On what Gil described as a “good course, that was challenging down the stretch” he was able to keep his composure and finish well. Second place in the division was Alessandro Cirillo (Brampton, ON) who shot rounds of 77-77, and the third place went to Christopher Wilson (Toronto, ON), who shot rounds of 80-75 to fall one stroke behind second place Cirillo.

The Boys 14-Under Division was also closely competed, with Bradley Byers (Oakville, ON) who edged out Samuel Primucci (Toronto, ON) by two-strokes to capture the divisional title. Byers rounds of 80-84 proved to be enough to seal victory, which Byers accredited to his “putting, I made a lot of 4-footers for par after struggling with the driver”. In an honest statement, Byers felt his confidence was too high in the second round,  after a victory at Oakdale Golf Club, and a first round lead, Byers felt that his confidence was leading him to make risky plays that could of cost his tournament, however, thanks to his putting and strong play, Byers risks paid off and he was able to capture the divisional title. Liam Hallis (Aurora, ON) was able to round out the top three, after shooting rounds of 85-88.

The Girls Division saw Eunice Hong (Thornhill, ON) capture first place, after rounds of 87-96, to give her a 9-stroke victory over second place Divya Chawla (Thornhill, ON). On a course she described as “challenging, with dog legs both left and right”, Hong credited her success to her “iron play, which helped put the ball on the greens”. Third place in the division fell to Shannon Rowan (Whitby, On) who trailed Chawya by 5-strokes.
