Luftspring, Ahrens, Greenshields Lead After the Second Round at Nike Golf Junior Championship

Lansdowne, Ont. (August 22, 2012) – Juniors continue to enjoy the warm temperatures of the Thousand Island region at the second round of the Nike Golf Junior Championship at Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course in Lansdowne, Ont. Key divisional battles have created plenty of action as juniors head into the final round of the CJGA’s final major of the season.
Daniel Luftspring of Toronto, Ont. posted the low round of the day of 70 (-1) and now sits atop of the Boys 15-19 division. “The course is extremely tight” said Luftspring. “My putting made up for a lot of my mistakes today. I will need to hit more greens tomorrow.” Sitting in second place is Chris Wilson of Toronto, Ont. who managed to stay within striking distance of the leader with a solid back nine score of 35 (-1). Rounding out the top three is local junior Eric Macrow of Kingston, Ont. who posted 73 (+2) for the second straight day.
Ryan Ahrens of Peterborough, Ont. continues to lead the Boys 14 & Under division after carding 71 (E) to take a three stroke lead going into the final round tomorrow. “I played good today. I hit a lot of wedges to within three feet” said Ahrens. Sitting in second place is Anthony Occhiuto of Guelph, Ont who had a flawless back nine score of 33 (-3) to finish the round one over par. One shot back of Occhiuto in third place is Nicholas Brisebois of Kanata, Ont.
In the Girls division Shannon Lee Greenshields of Pincourt, Que has a comfortable lead heading into the final round after posting a score of 82 (+11). “I didn’t play so well on the front. I had a good back nine as I sank more putts” said Greenshields. Three shots back in second place is Estee Deschamps of St-Isidore, Ont. who also shot 82 (+11). Local golfer Abbie Anghelescu of Wolfe Island, Ont. now sits in third, seven shots back from the leader.
Tee times begin tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. Spectators are encouraged to attend.
