Wilson, Brisebois, Deschamps Capture Divisional Titles at Nike Golf Junior Championship

Lansdowne, Ont. (August 23, 2012) – The Nike Golf Junior Championship concluded today at Smuggler’s Glen Golf Course in Lansdowne, Ont. Juniors hit the links early in the day as divisional titles were up for grabs for this esteemed national event. Juniors were once again blessed with sunny skies and favourable scoring conditions.
Christopher Wilson, of Toronto, Ont. took the victory in the Boys 15-19 division after shooting a 72 (+1). “I putted really well this week. The greens were so smooth” said Wilson who went into the day one shot back of the leader. Gavin McQueenie also of Toronto Ont. vaulted into the runner up position after posting the low round of the day 70 (-1) to finished the tournament four over par.
Nicholas Brisebois of Kanata, Ont. claimed his first national championship in the Boys 14 & Under division after shooting 70 (-1) to finish the tournament five over. “I made a lot of great putts today” said Brisebois. “I knew I had the stay calm and be patient if I wanted to win.” In second place was Ryan Ahrens of Peterborough, Ont. who started the round with a 3 stroke lead but was unable to seal the deal today after firing a 77 (+6) and finished three shots back of the leader.
In the Girls division Estee Deschamps of St-Isidore, Ont. also overcame the second round leader to claim her first national title. Deschamps who only had 27 putts on the day shot 77 (+6). “I felt like I was in a god position going into the day” said Deschamps in the clubhouse after the round. Playing in her last junior tournament was Shannon Lee Greenshields of Pincourt, Que. whose consistent play resulted in the runner up position.
