CJGA Alumnus Eugene Wong Captures Canadian Tour Championship
-Four CJGA Members Experience Championship Professional Golf-
Richmond Hill, Ont. (August 26, 2012) Eugene Wong, a former CJGA standout and recently turned professional, captured his first professional event today winning the Canadian Tour Championship at Scarboro Golf & Country Club in Scarborough, Ontario in thrilling fashion. In the hunt throughout the weekend, Wong was a stroke back heading to the 72nd hole where he proceeded to hole out from the middle of the fairway for eagle and capture the Canadian Tour’s flagship event.
A member of the CJGA throughout his junior days, Wong was a staple in the CJGA program, winning multiple events, and representing Canada at the CJGA’s inaugural Canadian International Junior Challenge (CIJC) in 2006 in Niagara.
Wong’s first professional title comes in just his third event, all on the Canadian Tour, where he has made the cut in each.
The CJGA was also represented this week at the Canadian tour Championship by four current members after they were awarded exemptions directly into the event through the CJGA Canadian Tour Championship Junior Qualifier.
Joseph Kremer, Adam Shaw, Drew Nesbitt, and Un Cho all received exemptions to participate in the event after qualifying through the 1-day qualifier that took place on August 12th in Stouffville, Ont. Although all four of the participants failed to make the weekend in one of the strongest fields on the Canadian tour schedule, valuable experience was gained that will assist in their continued competitive development.
