CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON (September 12, 2012) – Terrific weather conditions greeted the junior boys for the second round of the Canadian International Junior Challenge at OslerBrook Golf & Country Club today. The four time defending champions, England, posted the best scores of the day to increase their lead on the field, opening up a16 stroke lead on second place Canada.
The English were led by Bradley Moore who fired a 69 (-3) as he jumped into second place on the individual leader board. The team posted an impressive 211 (-5) team total today as they look to capture their fifth consecutive trophy. Harry Ellis, the English Amateur champion, found his game today firing a 2-under par (70) while tournament leader Nick Marsh shot a round of even-par (72) and Cameron Massey shot a round of 77 (+5).
Steve Morrison, team manager for the English squad was pleased with the showing by the team so far. “All the boys played very solid today, I am very pleased. Bradley, our youngest member came in with a 69.” Looking for a fifth consecutive tournament title, Morrison added “we like to win any tournament we go into, but to win this event five years in a row would be quite something, but we are only two-thirds of the way.”
The Canadian team, currently sitting in second place in the team competition was lead by Matthew Scobie of Ajax, Ontario after he fired a 1-under par round of 71 today. The Canadian squad shot a team total 219 (+3) today, posting a 451 (+19) total for the two days. Etienne Papineau shot a second round 73 (+1), with Joseph Kremer shot a 75 (+3) and Tony Gil, 76 (+4).
“Our team played well today. We had a goal of improving upon our play yesterday and we did that shooting 3 over par compared to 16 over yesterday” stated Sean Casey, Canadian team manager. “Having said that, I know the boys are disappointed as they all left some shots out there. England is always tough to beat and this year is no exception. Our boys are really looking forward to playing with the English boys tomorrow and we'll see if we can make up some ground.”
Mexico sits in third place after today’s second round with a team total 466, followed by the Colombians with a team total of 470. Norway (482), and the United States (487) round out the field respectively.
