England Captures Fifth Consecutive Canadian International Junior Challenge
-Marsh Holds on to Capture Individual Crown-
CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON (September 13, 2012) – Under beautiful sunny skies at OslerBrook Golf & Country Club in Clearview Township, the four junior boys from England continued their dominance at the Canadian International Junior Challenge capturing their fifth consecutive title today. Heading into today’s final round with a 16 stroke lead, the English squad once again out performed the competition to close the event twenty-two strokes better than the runner-up Canadian squad.
“To win any international competition is always very pleasing, and to win this event five times in a row, it is thrilling” said Steve Morrison, team manager for Team England. “The hospitality and quality of the course has been first class, and we look forward to returning next year” added Morrison.
The English were led by tournament medalist Nick Marsh after he posted a final round 71 (-1) to finish the tournament at 3-under (213). Bradley Moore, the youngest of the English squad closed out his tournament with a round of 74 (+2) to finish in a tie for second, six stokes back of Marsh. The team posted another impressive team total, closing today at 219 (+3) to capture their fifth consecutive trophy. Harry Ellis shot a final round 74 (+2) to finish the tournament nine-over and Cameron Massey finished with a round of 78 (+6).
“I am extremely pleased with the way the boys performed this week, it was a great team to have” added Morrison.
The Canadian team had a strong competition, finishing runner-up to the strong English side, closing the event with a final round team total of 225 (+9) and tournament total 676 (+28). Matthew Scobie of Ajax, Ontario led the Canadian squad, finishing T2 on the individual leader board after closing the tournament with a final round 71 (-1) to finish at 219 (+3) for the tournament. The Canadian squad shot a team total 219 (+3) today, posting a 451 (+19) total for the two days. Joseph Kremer finished with a 75 (+3) for the tournament, 227 (+11) total, while Etienne Papineau closed with a 79 (+7) and and Tony Gil, 82 (+10).
“The boys played well and I am happy with their runner-up finish” stated Sean Casey, team manager for the Canadian squad following the round. “It was a fun week and hats off to a strong English squad, they should be proud of their victory.”
Colombia finished in third spot, catapulting over Mexico with a final day team total of 7-over par (223), seven better than the Mexicans on the day, finishing the event at 696. Norway (711), and the United States (751) round out the field respectively.
