England Continues to Lead at Tri Nations Cup

Bela Bela, Limpopo, South Africa (January 13, 2010) The English Golf Union held on to their slim lead over host nation South Africa at the Tri Nations Cup following the second round of play at Zebula Golf Resort & Spa in South Africa. The English and South African squads picked up 8 points apiece in the second round foursome matches, while CJGA Team Canada picked up two points.
The lone Canadian points came in the second match of the day versus the South Africans as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native Jerry Christiansen and Airdrie, Alberta resident Riley Fleming battled back from 2 down heading into the 16th hole, to win the match 1UP on 18 green.
“We knew we were never out of the match” said Christiansen, following their victory. “We took advantage of their mistakes and played hard all the way to the end” he added.
“The team played well having been together for only a week” said John Lawrence, CJGA Team Canada non-playing team captain. “The experience these players have gained will last forever, and assist them in their player development” he added.
The Tri Nations Cup will wrap up on Thursday with singles matches. Two points are awarded for a victory while one point is awarded for a halve.
