Q: How old do I have to be to compete?

A: Junior golfers aged 5 - 19 are eligible to compete with the CJGA

Q: What is the CJGA Junior Tour?

A: The CJGA Junior Tour is available for junior golfers aged 11 - 19. The tour offers high-level multi-day tournaments across Canada. Although there is no required skill level to participate, a general knowledge of the rules of golf is required.

Q: What are the age divisions on the CJGA Junior Tour?

A: Boys 14 & Under, Boys 15 - 19, Girls 11 - 19.

Q: What is the CJGA Junior Linkster Tour?

A: Initiated in 2001, the CJGA Junior Linkster Tour is an introductory program for beginning golfers aged 5 - 13. One-day events are offered in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta. The CJGA will set up the golf course specifically according to the ages of the participants. The CJGA promotes etiquette, fair play, and valuable golf experience through this program.

Q: What are the requirements to participate on the CJGA Junior Linkster Tour?

A: There are no minimum requirements. Just a passion for the game and a willingness to learn.

Q: What are the age divisions on the CJGA Junior Linkster Tour?

A: Boys 8 & Under (9 Holes), Boys 9-10 (18 Holes), Boys 11-13 (18 Holes), Girls 9 & Under (9 Holes), Girls 10-13 (18 Holes).

Q: Do I need a minimum handicap to play?

A: No. All junior golfers are eligible to play regardless of skill level. A basic understanding of the rules of golf as well as the ability to follow the CJGA Pace of Play guidelines is required on the CJGA Junior Tour (Ages 11 - 19). The CJGA Junior Linkster Tour (Ages 5 - 13) is offered as an introductory tour to learn the basics of the game.

Q: What is the cost for membership?

A: CJGA Junior Tour: $139 CDN or $139 U.S. for international players. CJGA Junior Linkster Tour: $65 CDN or $65 U.S. for international players.  All fees do not include HST.

Q: How long is the membership active?

A: A CJGA membership is active for one golfing season and expires on December 31st of the year of membership. It must be renewed annually.

Q: What are the benefits of a CJGA membership?

A: All CJGA members will receive a membership package including a CJGA hat, bag tag, towel and rules book. CJGA members may compete inter-provincially and will have access to the on-line registration system that includes an interactive profile. All members receive Jr. Golfer E-Newsletter monthly and all relevant CJGA updates.

Q: What is the cost for tournaments?

A: Tournament fees range depending on the location of the tournament as well as the level of golf course. For a complete listing of tournament fees please visit the Schedule & Results link of www.cjga.com.

Q: Are caddies permitted?

A: Caddies are permitted ONLY on the CJGA Junior Linkster Tour.

Q: Which tournaments should I play in?

A: It's important to set goals for yourself before the season begins and select your schedule accordingly. The CJGA offers a Player Services department that will be happy to assist you in planning your schedule. Please contact CJGA Head Office and ask to speak to a Player Services Representative.

Q: What do the codes beside the tournament name mean?

A: The first letter of the code corresponds to the tournament location (Ex. O12=Ontario). Tournament codes that are just letters (Ex. CMP, CSB) differ in that they may be sponsored or championship events. Please view the event info for the tournament for a description.

Q: How do I know if I've been accepted into a tournament?

A: Once a transaction is processed, an email is sent to the player confirming his/her spot in the tournament. If you do not receive an email, please contact the CJGA directly.

Q: What do the qualifying tournaments mean on the CJGA schedule?

A: The CJGA conducts a number of international and national qualifying tournaments over the course of the season. Registration for these events are accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

Q: How do I qualify for an international team?

A: All junior golfers nationally start with a level playing field in which to attempt to qualify. For specific international tournaments, the CJGA will offer a national qualifying series indicated in the tournament name (Ex. Euro Junior Golf Cup Qualifier). Any junior golfer who participates in any of these qualifying tournaments is eligible to qualify as long as you meet the age and score requirements for the international event. Once all qualifiers have been completed and course ratings have been compiled, the CJGA will select the team. Q: Does the CJGA award international team spots provincially?

A: No. All teams are selected on a national scale.

Q: Will the CJGA cover travel costs associated with international team travel?

A: Ultimately, the CJGA is striving to make this answer a yes. Currently, there is a fee associated with international team travel excluding the Stephen Ames Cup and Canadian International Junior Challenge. Fees will differ according to expenses associated with each tournament.

Q: How do I book a practice round for a tournament?

A: Contact the golf course directly, stating you are a CJGA member. Generally, the CJGA and the host golf course will arrange a practice round fee for tournament participants.  These fees and practice round availability will differ by course.

Q: What is the difference between performance-based entry and general tournaments?

A: For select CJGA events, junior golfers must apply for entry. The CJGA will select the strongest field based on resumes received. All general tournaments are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Q: Can I apply for entry into a performance-based tournament on-line?

A: No. A CJGA championship application must be mailed or faxed to CJGA head office no later than four weeks prior to the tournament.

Q: Can I request a specific tee-time or playing partner(s)?

A: Understanding that travel is an issue, the CJGA will do its best to accommodate tee-time requests however no guarantee can be made. The CJGA will not honour playing partner requests.

Q: What happens when a tournament is full?

A: When a tournament is filled, all junior golfers who attempt to sign up will be added to a waiting list according to age division. When a spot opens, you will be contacted directly by the CJGA to confirm entry into the event.

Q: What happens if I'm not on a waiting list?

A: You will not be considered if a spot opens up in the event.

Q: How do I cancel out of an event?

A: You must fill out a Tournament Cancellation form (PDF Format) and fax to CJGA head office. Your account may be credited as long as the requirements are met.
