Dumais, Hebert, James, and Boyd Victorious at 2008 Nike Golf Junior Championship

MILTON, ON (August 28, 2008) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) wrapped up its championship season today at Piper’s Heath Golf Club in Milton, Ont. as four junior golfers separated themselves from the pack in earning their respective division titles at the prestigious Nike Golf Junior Championship.

Alex Dumais, 17, of Caledon East, Ont, Samuel Hebert, 13, of St. Thomas ,Ont., Augusta James, 15, of Bath, Ont., and Dan Boyd, 17, of Forest, Ont. were all crowned division champions today at a wind swept and rainy Piper’s Heath layout.

“I realy liked the course and the field was tough,” said Dumais, winner of the Boys 17 – 19 Division after erasing a four stroke deficit during the final round.  “I didn’t have the greatest first round but it got better every day.  Definitely wasn’t expecting to win not being in the leader group so it’s a nice surprise.”  His three day total of 227 (+11) was highlighted by his final round 73 (+1).   Three players tied for second, three shots back of Dumais, including second round leader Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont.

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the tournament came courtesy of Hebert.  Competing in the Boys 13 & Under Division, the talented youngster put together three solid rounds of 74, 76, and 72 for a three day total of 222 (+6) and a convincing eleven shot win ahead of Conor Rodrigues of Kingston, Ont.  “I was really trying to shoot under par today but the weather kept getting worse,” said Hebert, also a winner last week at the national stroke play championship for the CJGA.  “I was pretty balanced over the three days.  I wasn’t getting too mad because I played well and kept my cool.”

Augusta James continues to improve with each event played and asserted herself as a force to be reckoned with on a national scale at Piper’s Heath.  Competing against a number of elite junior golfers, James led wire to wire in posting rounds of 76, 75, and 77 for a 228 (+12) total.  “It was a difficult start today but I pulled it together on the back nine,” admitted James.  “The competition was great.  Good players who were a lot of fun to play with.”  Julia Hodgson of Unionville, Ont. grabbed second spot in the flight while Michelle Lee of Mississauga, Ont. finished in third.

Despite a hiccup on the 10th hole today, Dan Boyd managed to gut out a victory in the Boys 14 – 16 Division after carding a round of 79 (+7) for a three-day total of 238 (+22).  “I played well on the front nine and grinded it out after 10,” said Boyd, who took a 10 on the par-5 hole.  “I’m not used to playing this type of course so I’m definitely excited for sure to get the win.”  Myles Sullivan of Portage, Man. grabbed second spot in the division while Audie Hsu of Mississauga finished in third spot.
