About the CJGA

Established in 1993, the CJGA was created to fill a void in the Canadian golf market.

Despite humble beginnings, the CJGA has grown from 12 tournaments in its inaugural year to a six stage competitive developmental program for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 19 now hosting over 90 events nationwide.

The Canadian Junior Golf Association is a "registered Canadian amateur athletic association" (RCAAA) not-for-profit organization.

The CJGA is an association partner of the RCGA and has developed partnerships with a number of Canadian PGA Zones.

In fifteen short years, through the hard work and dedication of a few people, the CJGA has developed a program that has assisted thousands of Canadian young people.

The developmental philosophy exemplified in our multi-day tournaments, and our junior golf camps has garnered an international reputation for the quality of the program and the junior players it produces.

Why the need for the CJGA

For many years Canadian junior golfers have been at a disadvantage competing against the rest of the world. Most of the tournaments that were available to them in Canada were one day events at the club level. Many of our juniors were not prepared to play in tournaments such as their Provincial Junior Championship because they did not have the toughness that is developed through participation in multi-day events.

Junior golf in the United States, Sweden, parts of Europe and South Africa have flourished. It was with this in mind that the Canadian Junior Golf Association began.

CJGA recognizes our youth

The Canadian Junior Golf Association recognizes that the future of our Country lies with our youth. Their success will be determined by the efforts we make today to develop the character, maturity and personal growth that will enable them to take their rightful place in a highly competitive international environment.

These are the very skills our programs build. By helping junior golfers, regardless of their economic means, to develop these skills we are helping to build a strong future for Canada through and for its youth.

We have only scratched the surface. While golf is a healthy, wholesome activity that relies on both physical and mental discipline to succeed, it is also relatively expensive. We have made every effort to open the door to all young people, regardless of economic means, but the reality is that without greater support these efforts will meet with limited success.

The CJGA has grown exponentially during the past 15 years. It recognizes that junior golfers are the trend setters and the future individuals that will represent our professionals and business environment.

Working hand-in-hand with the CJGA, we invite you to partner with the CJGA to develop the talent of the future.

Where Does the CJGA Fit in the Golf Industry?

. The CJGA has initiated a successful competitive development program that begins with golfers as young as five and continues until high school graduation. The CJGA develops junior golfers for the elite levels of competition and development including the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) Player Development program, international programs, the college and university level, as well as giving them opportunities for future careers with the Canadian Professional Golfers Association (CPGA). Many juniors who go through the programs offered by the CJGA will enjoy a lifetime of recreational golf.

. Currently, there is no comparable association in Canada with regards to the scope and size of the junior programs offered by the CJGA. As a result of the success of the CJGA, a number of junior tours have emerged over the last ten years at the local level across Canada. Golf courses have initiated junior programs and junior membership levels to relieve the financial burden.
