Four Division Winners Crowned at Callaway Golf CJGA Quebec Junior Masters

May 31st, 2004

ANJOU, PQ- The wind was once again a prominent factor Sunday at Club de Golf Metropolitain, in Anjou, Que. for the second and final round of the Callaway Golf CJGA Quebec Junior Masters but given the impressive scores that were turned in, juniors did not appear deterred by the somewhat challenging conditions.

Antoine Loranger's final round of 75 earned him first place honours in the Boys 14-16 Division, as the 16-year-old native of Blainville, Que. won the division by a single stroke over 15-year-old Laval, Que. native Simon Tartre. "I was able to keep the ball in the fairway today and I managed to play conservatively," said Loranger, who could not have hoped for any more success in his first ever CJGA tournament. His cumulative total of 151 also earned him the distinctive honour of having the lowest overall score in the tournament. Third place in the division went to 16-year-old Courtice, Ont. resident, Tim Lew, finishing three strokes off the pace.

Brittany Henderson picked up her third Girls Division title on Sunday, turning in a scorecard of 78 on Sunday, for a two-day total of 160. "My first round was O.K. but my performance today was a lot better," said Henderson, 13, of Smiths Falls, Ont. The Stol sisters, 12-year-old Jacqueline and 15-year-old Vanessa, both residents of Ottawa, Ont. finished second and third in the division respectively.

Age did not prove to be a factor in the Boys 13 & Under Division, as Paolo Addona, 10, of Anjou, Que. captured the division title. Addona, the youngest player in the entire field, used his knowledge of the Metropolitain layout to his advantage. "It feels very good to win the division. I really enjoyed myself this weekend," said Addona. Second place in the division went to Julien Goulet, 12, of St. Roch de L'Achigan, Que. while Jean-Sebastien Viau, 12, of Rosemere, Que. rounded out the top three in the division.

Finally, in the Boys 17-19 Division, 18-year-old native of Montreal, Que. Tarn MacArthur turned in consecutive rounds of 76 en route to capturing his first ever CJGA event. "Although I am pretty happy with the end result, the back nine could have been better on Sunday. However, the putting was pretty solid," said MacArthur. Two Ottawa area juniors captured the final two spots on the podium in the flight as 17-year-old product of Orleans, Ont. Alexander Gibson and 18-year-old resident of Kanata, Ont. Kyle Tobin, finished second and fourth respectively.
