Batten holds on to take CJGA Jamieson Vitamins Ontario Junior Championship

Tecumseh, ON- After two days of awful conditions at the Jamieson Vitamins Ontario Junior Championship, warm weather and sunny skies greeted the juniors for the final round played at Beach Grove Golf Club. Playing his home course, Jordan Batten shot a solid round of 76, for a three-day total of 218 to take the Jamieson Vitamins Ontario Junior Championship title. "It was very important to me to win this event, especially playing at my home course,? explained Batten. He entered and finished the final round with a two stroke advantage "I used to let everyone get into my head, but now I try and block everybody out of my mind and I just play my game." The win is Batten's first victory on the CJGA tour.

In the Boys 17-19 division, Matthew Iacobelli,18, turned in a solid 1-under 71 to win his second division title of the year. The Leamington, Ont. native played his strongest round of the tournament on Wednesday, finishing with a three-day total of 223. Recording the only under par third round score was something he thought he would need to do in order to contend for the title. "I was thinking last night that if I can shoot 70 or 71, I would put myself in contention," said Iacobelli. "My putting was outstanding. I made two 40 footers and made everything inside 10 feet". Maintaining his second place position in the division was Petrolia, ON resident Lee Drydak. He secured his position with a 76 on the final day to finish the tournament at 225. Third place in the division went to Mark Martin, after his round of 78 today. Martin dropped four shots from his round of 74 yesterday, yet still managed to hold on to third with a three day total of 226.

In the Boys 14-16 division, the leader board was topped by Tecumseh residents. Batten, with a three day total of 218 won the division, with Adam Petrasovic and Zachary Bested coming in second and third respectively. Petrasovic started the day two strokes back of Batten but was unable to gain any ground as he finished his third round with a 76 and tournament total of 220. Petrasovic's solid round also allowed him to secure second low overall for the tournament. Zachary Bested did his best to gain valuable ground, but fell just short of Petrasovic after his round of 75 and three day total of 221.

The Boys 13 and under division was captured by Brendan Finlay, also a Tecumseh resident. Finlay played solid all three days to capture the division title.

On the third and final day of the event, the Girls division developed into a heated battle among sisters. Sehee and Sebin Kim of Cambridge, Ont. finished one, two respectively, as Sehee edged out her younger sister for top spot. Sehee Kim posted a second round of 77 to give her a tournament total of 239. Sehee attributed her win mainly to the fact that she remained confident,
which gave her a consistent putting stroke. Finishing nine strokes back was Sebin Kim, who posted a 248 three day total. Taking the third spot on the podium was Tecumseh, ON native Mandi Dupuis who finished with 249 for the tournament.
