Final Round Washed Out at CJGA Mazda Series Junior at Station Creek

Gormley, ON -The CJGA Ontario schedule visited Station Creek Golf Club in Gormley, Ont. this past weekend for the Mazda Series Junior at Station Creek. Unfortunately for the full field of 84 junior golfers, Mother Nature continued to disappoint as the final round was washed out. Alex Carrigan had no complaints however as the Guelph, Ont. resident captured the low overall title after a solid round of 73 on the first day.

"It was my best round of the year," said Carrigan, 16. "Mentally, I kept it all together and had a really solid front nine." Carrigan got through the front nine with only 13 putts and made four consecutive birdies en route to a one under 35. The win is Carrigan's first on tour in the Boys 14-16 Division. Finishing second in the division was Blayne Kettlewell, 16, of Thornhill, Ont. at 73. Kettlewell was awarded the Cleveland All-Star Award for his second low overall score. In third was Brent Stewart, 16, of Toronto, Ont. at 74.

Helena Harbridge, 16, of Toronto, Ont. collected her first win of 2004 in the Girls Division. Her round of 84 earned her the division title by one stroke ahead of Seehee Kim, 15, of Cambridge, Ont. "I struggled a bit with my driver but my iron game was solid," said Harbridge. "Despite the rain, I still played pretty well." Finishing third in the division at 86 was Sonya Jang, 17, of North York, Ont.

Daniel Kim collected his first win of 2004 in the Boys 13 & Under Division. The 13 year-old resident of North York, Ont. recorded a score of 78 to take the division title in a tiebreaker with Luc Robinson, 13, of Toronto, Ont. and Adam Lewis, 13, of Whitby, Ont. "My wedge game was incredible but I struggled a bit with the putter," said Kim. "I came in pretty confident because Station Creek is my home club."

The Boys 17-19 Division title was collected by Chris Carmichael, 19, of Toronto, Ont. The tour veteran opened with a 77 to take the title by one stroke ahead of Benjamin Shain, 17, of Toronto, Ont. "I started poorly but eventually strong some pars together and regained some consistency," said Carmichael. "I struck the ball well but missed a few putts." Finishing third in the division tied at 78 were James Castle, 17, of Stouffville, Ont. and Kevin Hayward, 18, also of Stouffville, Ont.

The CJGA Ontario Schedule continues next weekend in Listowel, Ontario for the CJGA Callaway Junior Worlds Qualifier.
