Team Humber College Grabs Opening Round Lead at CJGA Humber College Invitational

MARKHAM, ON (May 14, 2008) – In what was almost identical conditions to the final round of the 2007 Humber College Invitational, strong winds and persistent rain engulfed Mystic Golf Club in Ancaster, Ont. as the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) conducted the final round of the two-day event. Team Humber College dominated the Men’s Competition while Team CJGA ran away with the Ladies title.
Humber College posted an impressive two-day total of 597 (+21) in earning a sizeable 23-shot margin of victory ahead of Team CJGA. Teammates Adrian Cord and Mark Hoffman tied for the overall low score at 149 (+5), forcing a playoff to decide the medallist. It was Cord who emergd victorious after making par on the first extra hole. “The boys played well and it’s great to get the win,” said Cord after the round. “The tournament was really fun and well run.” Humber College will look to defend its 2007 Canadian University and Colleges Championship title in two weeks in Victoria, B.C. “We’re defending champs and hopefully we can do it again,” said Cord. “I hope I can contribute.”
Team CJGA was led by the play of David Crawford who missed an opportunity to participate in the playoff by a single stroke after posting a 77 (+5). He tied for third overall with first round leader Garrett Rank of the University of Waterloo.
In the Ladies competition, Team CJGA dominated from start to finish competing against colleges and universities led by Megan Pototschnik who fired a two-day total of 166 (+22). The low overall winner came from the University of Toronto as Danielle Greene eliminated a five-shot deficit on Tuesday in posting a 78 (+6) for a two-day total of 162 (+18). “I played a bit better today than yesterday,” admitted Greene after the round. “The team format made for a fun atmosphere. I really enjoyed it.”
