Budd Leads at CJGA Nike Golf Junior Championship
Uxbridge, Ont. (August 30, 2007) – An impressive second round 73 (+1) has given Toronto, Ontario’s Russell Budd, 16, a slim one shot lead at the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s (CJGA) Nike Golf Junior Championship. The tournament, now in its third year, is hosted by Wooden Sticks Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ont. and will wrap up on Friday.
Budd played steady golf on Thursday to overtake first round leader Jonathan Kim-Moss, 16, of Mississauga, Ont. in the Boys 14 – 16 Division with a two round total of 148 (+4). She leads Calgary, Alta. resident Juanita Rico by eight strokes. “I struggled a bit with my short game but I hit my driver and irons well,” said Lee-Bentham. “I want to stay aggressive tomorrow.” Michelle Lee, 15, of Mississauga, Ont. is currently third.
“I didn’t hit the ball great but I kept on making pars,” admitted Burlington, Ont. native Michael Gligic, 17, who leads the Boys 17 – 19 Division by two shots after posting a second round 73 (+1). “Par is a good score here so I’ll be looking to hit as many greens as possible tomorrow.” He leads Will Thornburrow, 17, of Toronto while Luke Dempsey, 17, of Bedford, N.S. sits in third at 152 (+8).
The Boys 13 & Under Division will wrap up tomorrow morning as play was suspended due to darkness. Tee-times for the final round will get underway at 1:00 p.m.
