Elite Field in Place for Nike Golf Junior Championship

Markham, Ont. (August 24, 2007) – Perhaps the strongest field in the history of the Nike Golf Junior Championship will tee it up next week, August 28th to 30th, at Wooden Sticks Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ont.  The national field includes competitors from Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia.

The Nike Golf Junior Championship is the final national championship on the CJGA schedule and also the final invitation only event.  Winners of the national nine-tournament CJGA Nike Golf Junior Series schedule have been granted an exemption into the Nike Golf Junior Championship.

Notable players in the event include Bryan Lichimo of North Vancouver, B.C. in the Boys 14 – 16 Division, Juanita Rico, 17, of Calgary, Alta. and Rebecca Lee-Bentham, 15, of Richmond Hill, Ont. in the Girls Division and Luke Dempsey, 17, of Bedford, N.S. in the Boys 17 – 19 Division.

Defending champion, Kristopher Kowalchuk, 13, of Burlington, Ont. will be hard pressed to defend his title in the Boys 13 & Under Division as competitors include Lucas Kim, 13, of Toronto, Ont. who will be looking to add to his national championship total, while CJGA Team Canada member Gajan Sivabalasingham should also contend.

Tee-times for the event will get underway at 1:00 p.m. on August 28th and 1:50 p.m. for the following two rounds.  As always, spectators are encouraged to attend but should be aware that power cart rental will not be available.
