OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

Commonly referred to as The Optimist, the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships is one of the largest and most prestigious junior golf events in the world. In addition to top-level tournament golf, participants have the opportunity to meet new friends and have a great deal of fun. Each year, more than 650 junior golfers from 25 countries participate in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. Each year over 5,000 young people from the United States and Canada compete in qualifying tournaments. Some former participants in Optimist-sponsored events include Bubba Dickerson, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Michelle McGann, Ernie Els, Justin Leonard, Nancy Lopez, Phil Mickelson, Nick Price, Corey Pavin, and Craig Stadler.

Exemptions
Exemptions for the 2008 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships will be given to the age division winners and runners-up of the 2008 Mizuno CJGA National Golf Championship tournament.  Golfers eligible for this exemption should contact Optimist Junior Golf at golf@optimist.org or (800) 500-8130 for details.

District Qualifiers
Optimist Districts throughout North American conduct official qualifying tournaments that advance golfers to the 2008 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.  For a schedule of official qualifying tournaments and more information, please visit www.optimist.org/golf. 

2008 Tournament of Champions
As an added bonus, the winners and runners-up for the boys and girls 14-15 and 16-18 divisions from official Optimist District qualifying tournament are eligible to apply for the 4th Annual Optimist International Tournament of Champions, November 15-16, 2008 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

CJGA juniors will also have an opportunity to qualify for the OIJGC through the Optimist International Junior Qualifier in BC.  The exemptions are provided by the Optimist Junior Linkster Tour Canada (BC)

• Boys 16-18: Top 8% of field scoring 78 or better.
  
• Girls Age 16-18: Any golfer scoring 85 or better.
• Boys 14-15: Top 8% of field scoring 83 or better.

• Boys 12-13: Top 10% of field scoring 90 or better.
• Girls 12-13: Any golfer scoring 95 or better.
• Boys 10-11: Top 15% of field scoring 96 or better.
• Girls 10-11: Any golfer scoring 96 or better.
