Wong Captures Bowdens Junior Series at Rolling Hills

August 16 , 2006

Stouffville, Ont. - Thornhill, Ontario’s Justin Wong cruised to victory today at the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s (CJGA) Bowdens Junior Series at Rolling Hills in Stouffville, Ont.

Wong, 18, carded a final round 78 to finish at 149 and earn his first CJGA division title of 2006 in the Boys 17 – 19 Division.  “I struggled with the wind today but I had a nice cushion after the first round,” said Wong.  “I made a lot of short putts that counted.”  Wong held off hard charging Joon-Ho Park who looked poised to make a run after making eagle on the par-4 second and posting a 36 on the front nine.  He closed with a 76 for a 153 total.  In third place was Matthew Maloney, 17, of Keswick, Ont. at 155.

Ryan Thomson, 15, of Georgetown, Ont. held on for his first career CJGA victory in the Boys 14 – 16 Division after closing with a 77 for a 151 total.  “I played pretty good,” said Thomson, who credited his putting and driving accuracy for the win.  “The greens were rolling fast and didn’t hold which made it tough.”  Adam Lewis, 15, of Whitby, Ont. also posted a final round 77 for a 153 total.  Spencer Wong, 16, of Thornhill finished third at 154.

Jacqueline Stol, 15, of Peterborough, Ont. earned her first Girls Division win of 2006 after a successful 2005 campaign.  Stol carded rounds of 82 and 86 for a convincing win ahead of Hayley Ingleson, 15, of Oakville, Ont.  “My short game was great this week but I struggled with my approach shots,” said Stol.  “It’s a great accomplishment considering the hard work I’ve put in.”  Julia DiGiovanni, 13, of Mississauga, Ont. finished third in the division.

After a successful CJGA Junior Linkster career, Michael Nedoszytko, 12, of Toronto, Ont. earned his first career CJGA Junior Tour win in the Boys 13 & Under Division at Rolling Hills.  Nedoszytko carded rounds of 79 and 82 for a four-stroke victory over Francesco Corrado, 13, of Woodbridge, Ont. and Jordan Romano, 13, of Thornhill.  “I’m excited for my first won on the Junior Tour,” he said, following his round.  “I putted well and kept my game together.”

The CJGA schedule will continue on August 20th with the second annual Nike Golf Junior Championship.  The tournament is one of only three invitationals conducted by the CJGA in 2006 and the final championship event on the schedule.
