August 29, 2006

Markham, Ont. - A full field of approximately 100 juniors will be looking to get their final swings in before returning to the classroom beginning on Wednesday, August 31st at the Adams Golf Junior Open. The two-day tournament, scheduled for Blue Springs Golf Club in Acton, Ont. boasts an elite group of juniors that includes almost a dozen CJGA Team Canada and national champions, as well as a number of 2006 division winners.

Fresh off his national championship title last week, 12-year-old Kristopher Kowalchuk heads into action as one of the favourites in the Boys 13 & Under Division.  He will receive stiff competition from fellow national champion and CJGA Team Canada East member, Lucas Kim, 12, of Etobicoke, Ont. as well as CJGA Team Canada member Kelvin Ho, 13, Richmond Hill, Ont. and young standout, Markham, Ont. resident Gajan Sivabalasingham, 12.

Alex Dumais, 16, of Caledon East, Ont. is set to challenge for the Boys 14-16 Division title after claiming his division at the CJGA’s national match play championship earlier this month.  Former CJGA Team Canada member Justin Shin, 14, of Richmond Hill and current Team East member Will Thornburrow, 16, of Toronto, Ont. are also expected to perform well.

Another national match play champion, Jonathan Kim, 17, of Toronto returns to action at Blue Springs gunning for his second win of the season. Ryan Terdik, 16, of Mount Pleasant, Ont. hopes to celebrate his 17th birthday with a second consecutive victory, while Toronto’s Joseph Shuchat, 17, should prove to be a strong performer after two previous top-five finishes this season.

A shotgun start will commence play at 7:30 a.m. for both days.  Tee-times will be posted at www.cjga.com 48 hours prior to the event.  Spectators are more than welcome to attend.
