Ontario Fall Series Begins this Weekend at Willodell
Markham, Ont. - The Canadian Junior Golf Association’s (CJGA) Ontario Fall Series begins this weekend, September 9th and 10th, at the Links of Niagara at Willodell in Port Robinson, Ont. The Ontario Fall Series, presented by Baka Wireless, is a series of three tournaments to close out the 2006 CJGA season.
A very strong Girls Division will compete for top spot at Willodell with three 2006 division winners scheduled to participate. Defending champion Taylor Schmidt, 15, of Kincardine, Ont., was victorious just two weeks ago in Acton, Ont. and is one of many hopefuls who will tee-off in Port Robinson. She will tee-off against fellow division winners, Jacqueline Stol, 15, of Peterborough, Ont. and Mississauga, Ontario’s Michelle Lee, 14, as well as Junior Linkster phenom Brogan McKinnon, 11, of Mississauga, who has three wins to her credit, including the Junior Linkster Championship title that she won last week.
12-year-old Gajan Sivabalasingham, of Markham, Ont. heads into this weekend’s event as the one to beat in the Boys 13 & Under Division. With four wins and five second place finishes in his 10 tournaments this year, he will be tough to beat. Daniel LaBrash, 13, of Woodbridge, Ont. has eight top-ten placements of his own in 2006 and could push for the division title. Playing in his second Junior Tour event of the year, Shyamal Nagindas, 12, of Aurora, Ont. should also perform well after three Junior Linkster wins in 2006.
Nike Golf Junior champion Timothy Lew, 18, of Courtice, Ont. tops the list of potential winners in the Boys 17-19 Division. Lew will compete against Nike Championship runner-up and three-time CJGA Team Canada member, Ryan Corbin, 18, of Niagara Falls, Ont as well as 2006 division winners Alex Carrigan, 18, of Guelph, Ont. and 18-year-old Jamie MacDonald, of Lasalette, Ont., who are both seeking their second wins of the year.
15-year-old Sterling Emery, of Orangeville, Ont. will look to make it three strong performances in a row with a good showing this weekend. Emery has a second and sixth place finish to his credit in his last two tournaments and should challenge for his first win. Perarasu Karu, 15, of Ajax, ont. has improved steadily over the course of the summer, recently posting two top-fives, while Aurora’s Jeffrey de Hart, 15, should also challenge.
Tee-times will get underway at 1:00 p.m. for both days. Tee-times will be available at www.cjga.com 48 hours prior to the event. Spectators are more than welcome to attend.
