Castle Rock Developments Junior Classic Set For This Weekend
Markham, Ont. (September 21, 2006) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is set to host the Castle Rock Developments Junior Classic this weekend, September 23rd and 24th, at Deer Creek Golf Course in Ajax, Ont. The event, which features a full field of over 80 golfers, is part of the Ontario Fall Series presented by Baka Wireless.
The Boys 13 & Under Division is expected to be highly competitive with more than 15 juniors registered to compete in the division. Mizuno National Champion, Lucas Kim, 12, of Etobicoke, Ont. has six top-three results this season and is once again expected to do well, while 12-year-old Gajan Sivabalasingham, of Markham, Ont., who currently leads his age division with 11 top-two finishes should also contend. Aurora, Ontario’s Shyamal Nagindas, 12, has made an impressive transition into the Junior Tour, recording a win two weeks ago along with a third place finish last weekend and could compete for his second title this weekend.
CJGA Team Canada members Buz Bowerman-Ritchie, 16, of Bowmanville, Ont. and Barrie, Ont. resident Jacqueline Yanch, 14, should compete for the Girls Division title. Both girls represented the CJGA in Scotland at the Euro Junior Golf Cup earlier this summer. Jacqueline Stol, 15, of Peterborough, Ont. has finished third or better on five occasions and should not be dismissed.
Former CJGA Team Canada members Ryan Putnam, 17, of Georgetown, Ont. and 17-year-old Ryan Sevigny, of Stittsville, Ont. headline the Boys 17-19 Division. Both juniors have recorded victories this season, with Putnam posting two wins and Sevigny one. Bracebridge, Ont. native, Russell MacKay, 17, has one two consecutive CJGA events and should fare well.
2006 CJGA event winners Jonathan Kim-Moss, 15, of Mississauga, Ont., Sebastian Szirmak, 16, and Will Thornburrow, 16, both of Toronto should all compete for the Boys 14-16 Division crown along with former CJGA Team Canada member Luke Shaugnessy, 14, of Peterborough, Ont.
Tee-times for both days will get underway at 7:30 a.m. Tee-times will be posted at www.cjga.com at least 48 hours prior to the event. As always, spectators are more than welcome to attend.
