August 30 , 2006

Delacour, Alta. - A first round total of 69 for Boys 14-16 Division competitor Connor Matzelle helped earn him his first Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) victory of 2006 as the Alberta Fall Series event at The Canal at Delacour Golf Club in Delacour, Alta wrapped up on Tuesday.

A 16-year-old native of Calgary, Alta., Matzelle ran away from the field, defeating his closest competitor by five strokes, finishing the two-day tournament at 148 (69, 79). Kyle Wilson, 15, of Chestermere, Alta. claimed second place with a two-day total of 153, while CJGA Team Canada member Jordan Duffy, 16, of Calgary took home third place, one shot back of Wilson (154).

A playoff was needed in the Boys 17-19 Division after Calgary natives Wilson Mitchell, 17, and Myoung Sik Choi, 19, finished 36 holes tied with 151 totals.  After four previous top-ten finishes this season, Mitchell finally captured his first CJGA win of the year. 17-year-old Gerry MacDonald, of Chestermere finished close behind, trailing the leaders by only two strokes.

A two-day total of 161 by Skyesong Alexis, 17, of Gunn, Alta. was enough to edge out the rest of the field in the Girls Division to claim her first CJGA win of 2006. Division runner-up Cecilia Jeon, 15, of Calgary could not erase the deficit, closing the tournament five shots back and Justine Stevens, 14, of Calgary finished third.
