British Columbia Fall Series Continues at Belmont Golf Course This Weekend
Markham, Ont. - The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) season draws nearer to a close this weekend, September 23rd and 24th, as a strong field of juniors visit Belmont Golf Course in Langley, B.C. for the second to last B.C. Fall Series event of the year.
Kevin Lee, 11, of Surrey, B.C. appears to be the favourite in the Boys 13 & Under Division, having claimed top spot at the Mizuno Western Canadian Junior Championship earlier this season. Lee will be in tough, however, with two other division winners set to compete. Mason Pimentel, 11, of Surrey, B.C. has one win to his credit, while Vancouver, B.C.’s Nicholas Russell, 13, has recorded victories in his only two events of the year.
Kelowna, B.C. native Christian Pomerleau, 14, is one three division winners from last weekend’s event at Sandpiper to tee-off in Langley. Pomerleau has another win to his credit in 2006 and in late August he competed in the Nike Golf Junior Championship. Last weekend’s runner-up, Dylan Nickel, 16, is also expected to place well, as should another Nike Championship participant, Xin Yu (Vincent) Wang, 16, of Langley.
Fresh off his victory last weekend at Sandpiper, Ted Cho, 17, of Langley, will seek his second win in a row in the Boys 17-19 Division. 17-year-old Ryan Stugis, of Mission, B.C. has finished runner-up in two straight events and will be after his first win of the season.
Soobin Kim, 13, of Port Coquitlam, B.C. has posted two wins this season, including her most recent win last weekend at Sandpiper Golf Club, and appears to be the one to beat once again in the Girls Division.
Tee-times for both days begin at 12:02 p.m. Tee-times are available at www.cjga.com. As always, spectators are more than welcome to attend.
