Strong Field in Place for CJGA Big Chief Jerky Alberta Junior Championship

Markham, Ont.- Over 70 junior golfers are set to tee it up at the CJGA Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Golf Championship, considered the provincial championship for the CJGA, at Elbow Springs Golf Club in Calgary, Alta. on August 22nd and 23rd.

A strong field features several CJGA Team Canada members as well as a number of division winners from the 2006 season.

One CJGA Team Canada member playing in the event is 14-year-old Carson Kallis, of Red Deer Alta. Kallis has collected three CJGA division titles this year including two stints internationally at the Euro Junior Golf Cup in St. Andrew’s, Scotland, and the Mizuno North America Cup in Bluffton, South Carolina. Also in contention for the title in the Boys 14 - 16 Division are teammates, and Calgary natives, Jordan Duffy, 16 and Rhys Royer, 16. Saskatoon, Sask. resident Dallas Mengel, 15, is also expected to perform well in the division.

Defending Boys 17 - 19 Division champion Matt Albinati, 18, of Grande Prairie, Alta. returns for a second swing at the provincial title with three top five finishes under his belt this season. He will face Calgary’s CJGA Team Canada members Brock McKechnie, 17, and Brad Thompson, 17. Albinati will also have to fend off CJGA Junior Worlds Qualifier champion Jack Wesche, 17, of Calgary.

In the Girls Division, young standout Nicole Zhang, 14, of Calgary, will make her third CJGA appearance of the season in search of her second win. CJGA Mizuno National Golf Championship participant Jocelyn Edwards, 16, of Calgary will also hit the links in the Girls Division.

Calgary’s Aaron Crawford, 12, Matthew Vician, 12, and Matt Williams, 10, will duke it out in the Boys 13 & Under Division.

Tee-times for the event will get underway at 7:30 a.m. on both days.  As always, spectators are encouraged to attend.
