CJGA Quebec/Ottawa Championship to get Underway on Monday
Markham, Ont. - Upper Canada Golf Course is set to host the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) Quebec/Ottawa Junior Championship as the area’s best juniors make their way to Morrisburgh, Ont. for the three day tournament, beginning on Monday, August 21st. A strong field of juniors will compete for the crown of the region’s top junior golfer.
Nathan Callighen, 17, of Stittsville, Ont. will look to successfully make the jump into the Boys 17-19 Division when he tees off at Upper Canada. Callighen is coming off a victory last week while competing in the Boys 14-16 Division in Montreal. Fellow 2006 division winners, Tweed, Ont. resident Sheamus Murphy, 17, and 17-year-old Vincent Adams, of Boisbriand, Que. will also be after a second victory in 2006.
Fresh off her victory at Ile de Montreal, 19-year-old Victoria Thompson, of Akwesasne, Ont. will look to make it two in a row in Morrisburgh. She will once again compete against Mirabel, Que. resident Katherine Gravel-Coursol, 12, in the Girls Division, as well as Brooke Mallory, 17, of Brockville, Ont.
Jonny Parker, 15, of Stittsville, Ont. headlines the list of hopefuls in the Boys 14-16 Division. He was victorious earlier this season at the Ottawa PGA Junior Open and should once again be among the leaders next week. Repentigny, Que. native Yann Gagnon, 16, is coming off a third place showing last week in Montreal and is also expected to compete.
Philippe Morency, 12, of Repentigny, and Gatineau, Que. resident Matthieu Kennis, 12, finished first and second respectively, back in June at The Canadian, and will battle it out once again for the title.
Tee-times for all three days will get underway at 7:30 a.m. Tee-times will be posted at www.cjga.com at least 48 hours prior to the event. As always, spectators are more than welcome to attend.
