Mazda Junior Series Continues at Lakeridge Golf Club

August 21, 2006

Markham, Ont. - With the golf season slowly drawing to a close, the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) Ontario schedule continues on August 22nd and 23rd, as over 75 of Ontario’s best make their way to Lakeridge Golf Club in Whitby, Ont. for the second and final Mazda Junior Series event of the season.

A number of contenders highlight the Boys 13 & Under Division, with Francesco Corrado, 13, of Woodbridge, Ont. leading the way. Corrado has two top-three finishes on the CJGA Junior Tour this season and should once again be among the leaders. Fellow Woodbridge golfer, Daniel LaBrash, 13, should fare well at Lakeridge, while Markham, Ont. resident Truman Tai, 12, has performed well in a limited number of events, with a second place showing to his credit.

2006 division champions, 16-year-olds Andrew Horrocks, and Will Thornburrow, both of Toronto, head into the tournament as the favourites of a very strong Boys 14-16 Division. With two top-five placements earlier this season, Ajax, Ontario’s James Hoffman, 16, is also expected to perform well.

Alessandro Cappa, 17, of Toronto is the defending champion of the event as he claimed the Boys 14-16 Division last year. Cappa will look to repeat while competing in the Boys 17-19 Division. With a victory at Cedarhurst three weeks ago, Bracebridge, Ont. resident Russell MacKay, 17, should contend, as should 18-year-old Matthew Maloney, of Keswick, Ont., who finished third at Cedarhurst.

Julia Hodgson, 14, of Unionville, Ont. has four top-five results on the season and should lead the Girls Division.

Tee-times for both days will get underway at 10:00 a.m. Tee-times will be available at www.cjga.com 48 hours prior to the event. Spectators are more than welcome to attend.
