Markham, Ont. - The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is set to host the final CPGA Championship of the season on August 14th and 15th for the CPGA Atlantic Junior Championship at Glen Lovat Golf Club, in New Glasgow, N.S as a strong field tees off for the title of top junior in the Maritimes. The two-day tournament is also the fourth and final Bowden's Junior Series event and is considered the provincial championship for the CJGA.
Irene Jung, 13, of Bedford, N.S. will be after her third consecutive CJGA victory when she tees off in the Girls Division at Glen Lovat. Jung ran away with the first two CJGA Atlantic tournaments earlier this season and seems destined to make it a clean sweep. Kentville, N.S. resident, Kyla McIsaac, 18, finished second to Jung earlier in 2006 and will be in contention again.
With a third and fourth place in the Atlantic's first two CJGA events this season, Jamie Sweet, 13, of Cole Harbour, N.S. appears to be the one to beat in the Boys 13 & Under Division. He will compete against 12-year-old Ben Smith, of Darmouth, N.S., who also has two top-fives to his credit and local junior Ryan McPherson, 13, of Pictou County, N.S.
Craig Dale, 15, of Truro, N.S. is the most accomplished junior in the Boys 14-16 Division with a third and fifth place on his resume in 2006. Local golfers Nike Sutherland, 16, and 14-year-old James Stevens, both of New Glasgow, N.S. will also be after the division title in their hometown.
Nick Coates, 19, of Dartmouth headlines the Boys 17-19 Division with two top-four placements back in June.
