Gligic Continues Hot Play at Eagle Ridge

September 18, 2006

Georgetown, Ont. -
Burlington, Ontario’s Michael Gligic collected yet another victory this past weekend at the CJGA Ontario Fall Series at Eagle Ridge presented by Baka Wireless.

Gligic, 16, fired rounds of 68 and 73 on the par-70 layout, holding off Richmond Hill, Ont. resident Justin Shin, 14 on Sunday to earn his sixth division title of 2006. “It was a bad start to the round today but I picked it up on the back nine,” said Gligic, a CJGA Team Canada member and national champion who posted a 35 (-1) on his final nine holes to hold off Shin by two strokes. Paul Wells, 16, of Toronto, Ont. grabbed third spot in the Boys 14 - 16 Division at 147 (+7).

Guelph, Ontario’s Alex Carrigan, 18, was victorious for the second consecutive week after a win last week in Niagara Falls, Ont. Carrigan posted rounds of 72 and 70 for a 142 total (+2) and a convincing six-stroke victory in the Boys 17 - 19 Division. Carrigan overtook first round leader Stuart Favretto, 17, of Oakville, Ont. on Sunday.  In third was former CJGA Team Canada member, Steven Jackson, 17.

North York, Ontario’s Richard Jung, 13, also continued his stellar 2006 season at Eagle Ridge with his seventh victory in the Boys 13 & Under Division. Jung posted rounds of 69 and 75 for a 144 total (+4) and a five-shot victory over Nike Golf Junior Championship winner, Kristopher Kowalchuk, 12. “It was better yesterday but my putting held it together today,” said Jung, who recorded two birdies and an eagle during the first round. Shyamal Nagindas, 12, of Aurora, Ont. finished third at 155.

Kincardine, Ont. resident Taylor Schmidt, 15, collected her third consecutive victory at Eagle Ridge after posting rounds of 81 and 80 for a 161 total and a narrow three-shot win ahead of Michelle Lee, 14, of Mississauga, Ont.  “I drove the ball well today,” she said. “The course is a challenge with some tight holes and the fast greens.” Jacqueline Stol, 15, of Peterborough, Ont. finished third in the division at 171.

The CJGA Ontario Fall Series presented by Baka Wireless will continue on September 23rd and 24th with the Castle Rock Developments Junior Classic at Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax, Ont. A full field is slated to compete.
